Peasants
Peasants are the lowest rank in the hierarchy. They work on farms or in the castle.
On the farm
Farming usually is based on the seasons. Plouging in Autumn, Sowing in Spring and Harvesting in Winter.
Peasants usually wake up as early as 3am in the morning
They have a quick breakfast of porridge than head off outside to work As the Info above, What they work on depends on the seasons. During Autumn they plough the land using a mechanism involving bullock. During Spring they are sowing. Sowing is planting the seeds into the ground. The peasants look after the crops. When late spring hits, The food stock are running low. Some people even starve to death from starvation. They harvest during Summer and replenish their stocks of food. There are other jobs to do as well. There was Binding, hay making, threshing and hedging. Binding is to bind wheat. Hedging is to make fences. For woman, they had to do somewhat different work to men.
They had to wake up as early as 3 am as well to prepare breakfast. They also had to work on the fields but mostly they tend to their few plants and animals they have. They also had to have basic nursing and mending skills because there were no doctors or menders within their premises. |
In the castle
In a castle, peasants had to work as servants for nobles. They had to do the housework such as cooking and cleaning. Another job they would do is to look after the horses. The horses were very important to the nobles back then.
The only holiday Peasants have is on Sunday (refer to the Bible: Genesis Chapter 2 verse 2-3) as God rested on the seventh day when he created the Earth. Other than Sunday, they celebrate all Christian holidays such as Easter and Christmas.
Think that it's just work, work, work? It gets even worse. There is a tax as well. They had to pay 10% of what they had in any format (grain, money, animals etc.) AND a church tax (tithes). Since the church is the can do whatever they want, they tax people to fund their doings.
